St. Augustine's Football Team

On Thursday 17th March the year 5/6 football team played their first ever match together against Southill Primary School. This is the first time the team have ever played all together, let alone an actual match against another school!
The game started brilliantly for St. Augustine's who went into the lead within the first 5 minutes with a fabulous goal from Xavier. Southill came back from this incredibly strong to make it 1-1. Xavier, Ben and Archie Bas all had some brilliant chances with the ball hitting the bar and post on several occasions! Cian and Archie H worked brilliantly together in defence making some brilliant challenges and Sammi and Archie Bea were wonderful midfielders making some brilliant runs down the wings. Despite this, the visitors made it 1-4 before the stroke of half time. St. Augustine's did not let that stop them and after half time with two spectacular goals from Xavier and Archie Bas, assisted by Ben and Harry, they brought it back to 3-4. Our wonderful goalkeeper, George, made some brilliant saves throughout the game- well done George!
The game ended 3-5 to the visiting side but the St. Augustine's team did the school proud! They all played brilliantly and did not give up. They showed great courage and determination throughout the game and were very welcoming hosts too. We are now looking forward to more games and potentially a tournament later in the school year!
A big thank you to Tim for continuing to provide After-School Football Club and helping the team!
Well done team St. Augustine's!
