Football Report

On Thursday 14th November, St Augustine’s took a team to face a strong Southill side, in their first friendly of the year. Prior to the match, both schools observed an immaculate minutes silence in memory of Mrs Bladon.

Southill started confidently and passed the ball well. However, St Augustine’s were not overawed by their opponents, and put in a number of well-timed, strong tackles, while also ensuring that any time on the ball was limited.

While there were not lots of chances for St Augustine’s, they defended doggedly, with the goalkeeper, Jax, confidently claiming a number of well hit crosses. This, along with a well -organised defence comprised of Seth, Louie and Xavier, meant that the half-time score was 0-0.

Despite the continued strong defending, Southill eventually found a way through, with a well struck shot into the corner. St Augustine’s were constantly a threat on the counter, with Isabelle, Maisie, Finn and Joshua pressing and looking for the ball through to Arley, who looked dangerous every time the ball was at his feet. Orchestrating this, in the middle of the park, was Elwood, who did not stop running all game. Southill added two more goals and deserved the win, but St Augustine’s can be very proud of their performance. We thank Southill for hosting as we continue to improve as we play together and gel as a team. We look forward to our next match next week.
