Football Report vs Chickerell, Thursday 18th May

An excited St Augustine’s team, many representing the school for the first time, gave a fantastic account of themselves against a strong Chickerell team. They worked together as a cohesive unit throughout the match while also offering encouragement and advice to each other.  While Chickerell got the victory that their strong side deserved, all of the St Augustine’s players can walk away with their heads held high.

Rio made some very important saves in goal and showed an intelligent footballing brain on several occasions. Harry H worked very hard in defence, managing to make several important blocks and clear his lines when needed. George, playing in an unfamiliar outfield position, utilised his pace whenever the attack tried to get in behind. Harry C, again playing in a very unfamiliar position, worked very hard for the team. He gave advice, encouraged, and led like a true captain. Jacob read the game very well in midfield, making some important interceptions and passes along the way. Jakub worked very hard, with a few of his through balls creating good chances. Riley K proved to be a threat when St Augustine’s got the ball forward, always looking around to see who the pass should be played to. Toby did not stop running; he was a threat going forward and when defending, he also played in several dangerous corners. And finally, Clark showed that he has a natural attacking talent; he played on the shoulder of the defenders and regularly outpaced them. I have no doubt that he will get his first goal in his next match.

We are all very proud of the attitude and team performance that St Augustine’s put on- well done!
