Visit to Gravina in Puglia, Italy, November 2017

Year 6 Arrive in Italy!

26th November 2017
 
We arrived in Gravina around 9.00pm on 26th November 2017. Tired but looking forward to tomorrow. The B & B  is lovely. Alarm clocks set for 6.30 am, breakfast at 7.30 am, then off to school.
Italy Day 2
 
27th November 2017
 
A continental breakfast started the day. Then off to school where we were welcomed with music. The children also listened to Chindi, a refugee from Nigeria who shared his experience. Afterwards, they joined the Polish children in an Art activity where they all worked brilliantly. Pizza for dinner and an earlier night!
Italy Day 3
 
28th November 2017
 
We had an amazing day at school. In the morning, our hosts gave us an Olympic style display before the children did obstacle challenges and played handball. Great fun! Then we watched lessons at the secondary school. After lunch, the children carried on with their Art. Their work looks fantastic! 
Italy Day 4
 
29th November 2017
 
The children worked brilliantly with other pupils from Italy, Spain and Poland during their orienteering morning. The clues they found were all linked to the Olympic values. After a big lunch, English,  Italian, Spanish and Polish children all played together before going on a woodland walk. A fantastic day was had by all.
Italy Day 5
 
30th November 2017
 
Today the children have participated in sports from all four countries. They played datchball, stuck in the mud and blindfold games. One of the classes also hosted a birthday party for some of the children. Off to Matera this afternoon.
Italy Day 5 - Metera

We have spent the afternoon visiting the city of Matera, looking at the area of Sassi, a complex of cave dwellings carved into the mountainside. A beautiful place!
Italy - Last Day

This morning we had a guided tour of Gravina. Then back to school where the children collected their art and went to some lessons. We have had a fantastic time in Italy. See you back in Weymouth!
