Thrive is a therapeutic approach of working with all children. The Thrive Approach is based on research into child development and neuroscience (studies of the brain and nervous system) that helps to develop children’s social and emotional well-being.

The Thrive Approach begins with a whole class, online screening, where teachers answer a series of questions about each child in the class. From this, a class action plan is created and used as a basis for their P.S.H.E. lessons. The screening also identifies any children who would benefit from a more detailed assessment, which suggests ideas, activities and strategies to support small groups or individual children.

The Thrive Approach helps children to:

· feel good about themselves

· know that they matter

· become more resilient and resourceful

· form trusting, rewarding relationships

· be creative

· be compassionate and empathetic

· be thoughtful and self-aware

· be productive

· be able to overcome difficulties and setbacks

Activities are based on the arts and focused on children's creativity. Puppets, sand trays, role play, storytelling, mirrors and sensory materials are some methods used to enable children to express their thoughts and emotions.

Through the Thrive Approach, children’s emotional and social well-being can be monitored and any gaps in their development identified. By doing so, we will be able to make sure that all our children can make the best possible progress in their learning and relationships.
