Years 5 & 6 Sailing
31st May 2019
Once again, Year 5 and 6 took advantage of the Sail for a Fiver session run by the Andrew Simpson Sailing School.
This wonderful opportunity gives the children the chance to have a full morning’s session out on the water with fully qualified sailing instructors. It is a fully immersive activity with the children being put into the boats and launched onto the water. The instructors go around in motorboats to guide and instruct them.
The morning included a talk on water safety and the basics of how to sail a boat. The children then had to take their boat down to the water, get it off the trolley and launch it. They set off onto the water with very little idea of what to do and come back 2 hours later looking like they have always been sailing.
After they arrived back at the harbour, the children had to collect a trolley and bring their boat back onto land. It was not as easy as it looked!
All the children had an amazing time and felt that they had learnt much about sailing. The award of ‘Sailor of the Day’ was given to Olivia in Y5.
